This course is designed to develop specific underground metalliferous mining geomechanics design competencies for engineers to enhance their contribution to mine site geomechanics programs. The course covers critical geotechnical aspects of geomechanical mine design, including the geomechanical data required for design of mine drives, stopes and pillars.
Course topics include:
Intact rock strength
Discontinuities
Rock mass characterisation
Stresses in rock masses
Rock mass failure criteria
Excavation design
Stope design
Numerical modelling
Pillar design
The hybrid event format allows for participation either in-person, or online from anywhere in the world. This course contributes for up to 20 personal development hours.
